About Heather

Heather is a Research Assistant Professor with the Altin Research Group. Heather is broadly interested in the genetic mechanisms of pathogen virulence and host immunity. Her doctoral work at NAU focused on respiratory pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) and Coccidioides (Valley Fever). This background makes her particularly intrigued by Dr. Altin's ongoing Tuberculosis research, in which 2D single-cell genomics techniques are used to identify T cell reactivity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis antigens. This method has incredible potential to impact the development of both vaccines and diagnostics.
